Are CA 15-3, CEA and CA 125 Predictors for Lymphatic and Vascular Spread In Breast Cancer?

چکیده
Purpose: Tumor markers can be used to predict the prognostic factors in patients with breast cancer and, in this study, correlation between CA 15-3, CEA, and CA 125 and the prognostic factors in breast cancer is evaluated. Material and Methods: Patients treated for breast cancer between 2002 2004 were prospectively included in the study. Serum levels of CA 15-3, CEA, and CA 125 were evaluated in patient groups formed according to various clinical and histopathologic prognostic factors. Results: 233 patients with breast cancer were included in the study. Higher serum levels of CA 15-3 and CEA were detected in patients with larger tumors (p=0.01 for CA 15-3; p=0.005 for CEA) and serum CA 15-3 and CA 125 levels increased in patients with axillary involvement (p=0.033 for CA 15-3; p=0.036 for CA 125). Besides, serum CA 125 levels increased in patients with extracapsular tumor extension in axillary lymph nodes (p=0.007) and with vascular and lymphatic invasion by tumor cells (p=0.015). Conclusion: This study has shown that CA 15-3, CEA, and CA 125 could be helpful in predicting well-known prognostic factors such as axillary metastases and tumor size as well as extracapsular tumor extension and lymphovascular invasion in breast cancer.

Tumor markers in metastatic breast cancer subtypes: frequency of elevation and correlation with outcome.
BACKGROUND Little is known about the correlations between tumor markers (TMs), breast cancer subtypes, site(s) of metastasis and prognosis. METHODS Women diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer were included. Breast cancer subtypes were defined as LuminalA, LuminalB, LuminalHer2, Her2, Basal and non-Basal triple negative (TN). Levels of elevation of TM values [cancer antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3), c...
متن کاملبررسی ارزش تشخیصی میزان CA 125, CA 19-9, CA 15-3 مایع پلور در افتراق افیوژن پلورال بدخیم از خوشخیم
Background and purpose : Malignant and infectious diseases are the most frequent causes of pleural effusion. Malignant diseases produce pleural effusion through different mechanisms: lymphatic and capillary obstruction, pneumonia or atelectasia. Therefore absence of tumor cells in aspirated effusion, highly declines the sensivity of the cytologic study. For this reason, the use of tumor marke...
متن کاملExpression of monoclonal antibody-defined tumor markers in four carcinomas.
The specificity of monoclonal antibody-based, CA 125, CA 15-3, CA 19-9 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) immunoassays were evaluated by studying how these tumor markers are expressed, using serial serum specimens from patients with breast, ovarian, colorectal, and pancreatic carcinomas. It was found that none of the monoclonal defined markers was specific for any single malignant disease. Mult...
متن کاملThe Diagnostic Value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in Association with Serum Tumor Marker Assays in Breast Cancer Recurrence and Metastasis
BACKGROUND After initial treatment of breast cancer (BC), monitoring locoregional recurrence and distant metastases is a great clinical challenge. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of PET/CT in association with serum tumor makers in BC follow-up. METHODS Twenty-six women with a history of modified radical mastectomy were evaluated by 18F-FDG PET/CT. The results of PET/CT were compared with...
متن کاملImportance of CEA and CA 15-3 during disease progression in metastatic breast cancer patients.
UNLABELLED The aim of this study analysis was to determine the correlation between elevation of CEA and/or CA 15-3 and disease progression of metastatic breast cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS We investigated 119 breast cancer patients who had metachronous metastases. We evaluated levels of CEA and CA 15-3 at the time of first recurrence and at every further disease progression (PD). RESULTS I...
